Calathea lancifolia is a fabulous houseplant. It has upright, lance-shaped leaves with long wavy edges. The leaves are variegated with dark green strokes on a pale green background. The undersides are a burgundy red and velvety to the touch.
Calathea is a member of the Maranta family along with Stromanthe and Ctenanthe. All have exquisite foliage and are known as Prayer Plants due to the way the leaves close upwards at night.
Light: Bright indirect to medium light, will tolerate some shade
Water: Keep the soil moist at all times, but definitely do not allow the plant to sit in water or in very wet soil.
Temperature: Prefers warm to high temperatures, 18-23°C Avoid draughts and ensure the plant has reasonable ventilation.
Feed: Apply a weak dose of fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season
